"Look outside and tell me what you see..." The Dark Lord's voice was calm and yet filled with an unknown power, the Apprentice could only obeyed and looked outside the main window to the large barren plains filled with rock formations and ruins.
But of course, the Dark Lord wasn't asking what he could see with his eyesight. The Apprentice knew better than be so naive. Still, being in the forsaken planet, so strong in the Dark Side of the Force, made him confuse and he couldn't focus on anything in particular. He tried his best, which lately was never enough. There were several disturbances and ripples in the Force. But he wasn't so sure as to what they were.
"I see the Force, ever expanding, my Lord..." The Apprentice said never taking his eyes from the horizon.
The answer was filled with doubt. It was the obvious and yet dubious answer. Not entirely correct, not entirely wrong. A good escape. But his master wasn't pleased. He let out a soft sigh.
"I feel the last days of meditation and exercises meant nothing to you..." The Dark Lord observed with a bitter tone.
The Apprentice felt he had just failed his master. He needed to correct it, fast, before he would suffer the consequences. He concentrated further. He closed his eyes, very hard.
The Force was chaotic, twirling and he could almost hear the few creatures that surrounded them scream in fear. The very few manifestations of life were filled with terror. But the source wasn't easy to track, in fact he couldn't describe it.
"I feel the Force bending and rippling, as if there were a presences that disturbed life itself, distorting it and breaking it..." He kept his eyes closed. He could listen to his Master's hard breath.
"What is the source of this disturbance?" The Dark Lord asked, impatiently.
"I... I can't see it, Master..." And he really couldn't. He did feel some of the scarce wildlife of the desert planet through the Force, but none could ever create such a powerful print in the Force. There could be several explanations for this disturbance, but none seemed to fit his feelings or made any sense.
The Dark Lord let out another deep sigh. This time he didn't feel impatient at all.
"It would appear you still require much learning, my apprentice..." He said, while leaving through the large doors of the Sith Academy.
The Apprentice couldn't help but feel relieved. He let out a deep exalation when he noticed he was holding his breath for minutes now.
Suddenly the young Apprentice opened his eyes. The disturbance was now gone. The wildlife and the dark signature of the planet resumed its regularity.
The Apprentice looked back to see the Master, now deep into the corridors of the Academy. He then understood the origin of such powerful manifestation of the Dark Side, was his own master.
He began to wonder what powerful entity could bend, twist and break the Force with such might... He wondered how dark was his Master. How powerful was he that he could make such a silent and yet destructible manifestation.
He understood his failure to identify his Master as the sole source of the disturbance. And he was standing right next to him...
In his mind, he couldn't believe it...
His Master felt his thoughts and his voice echoed in his mind.
"Your foe could be anyone, learn not to trust your very right hand, not even the one standing beside you, who can teach you to destroy worlds of simply behead you..."
"Truly, Master Darth Revan..." The Apprentice said. And he switched off the holocron.
